Teachers at John Muir School each grade their students in their own ways. Teachers grade students on their citizenship in whatever ways they think is the correct way to grade. At San Marino High School, students are graded on their citizenship by using letter to numerical system. Letter grades, A-F, are converted to a four point numerical value where A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0. The following point range chart is used to determine students' citizenship grades:
Faculty at Pottsgrove High School believe "Since attitude is a significant factor in a child’s success, each subject is accompanied by a citizenship mark based on a pupil’s capacity for growth. This mark includes an evaluation of characteristics that are essential to personal and social development." Students are graded on whether they are Outstanding, Satisfactory, and Unsatisfactory. Students are graded on Attitude, Effort, and Dependability. Each topic is explained and is broken down into Always(Outstanding), Usually(Satisfactory), and Rarely(Unsatisfactory). Attitude is described as "approaches school work with enthusiasm, follows rules and directions of the teacher, participates constructively in class activities." Effort is described as "is attentive & produces quality work, completes assignments on time, initiates contact for extra help when needed." Dependability is described as "is on time to class, is prepared for class, makes up work in a timely manner." Junipero Serra High School uses the same system as John Muir School. Serra believes "Citizenship is a reflection of the general behavior, attitude, values, and habits of an individual student in the school community. They measure personal qualities, not academic performance, and therefore should not be equated with the academic scale." Students are graded using E, G, S, N, U. E meaning "Excellent" and standing for "an outstanding citizen." G meaning "Good" and standing for "an above average citizen." S meaning "Satisfactory" and standing for "meets citizenship standards." N meaning "Needs to Improve" and standing for "needs help to meet citizenship standards." U meaning "Unsatisfactory" and standing for "fails to meet citizenship requirements."
